   <subfield code="a">Năng lực tự học (NLTH) từ lâu đã được đánh giá cao vì những lợi ích to lớn của nó đối với người học và giáo viên ngoại ngữ. Cho đến nay, đã có nhiều nghiên cứu về NLTH trên khắp thế giới nhưng vẫn rất ít được thực hiện ở Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long. Nghiên cứu này nhằm mục đích tìm hiểu nhận thức của giáo viên ngoại ngữ về vai trò của NLTH đối với việc liên tục phát triển nghiệp vụ (PTNV) và các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến NLTH của họ. Dữ liệu thu thập được từ 63 giáo viên thuộc nhiều trung tâm ngoại ngữ khác nhau ở Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long cho thấy giáo viên EFL có nhận thức cao về vai trò của NLTH. Nhờ NLTH, giáo viên có thể đạt được các mục tiêu sư phạm với vai trò giáo viên ngoại ngữ và nâng cao trình độ ngoại ngữ. Đặc biệt, ngoài sự đồng tình cao về yếu tố “tính cách”, những người tham gia viết tự thuật và phỏng vấn có ý kiến khác nhau về các yếu tố gây ảnh hưởng khác như tuổi tác, giới tính và khả năng. Nhìn chung, kết quả thu được từ nghiên cứu chia sẻ những điểm tương đồng trong các nghiên cứu trước đây về vai trò quan trọng của NLTH đối với PD của giáo viên và những ý kiến gây tranh cãi về các yếu tố ảnh hưởng. Một ngoại lệ là trong khi các nghiên cứu trước đây cho rằng giáo viên có trình độ tiếng Anh thấp không thể dạy tốt, những người trả lời nghiên cứu này khẳng định họ có thể. Dựa vào kết quả nghiên cứu, những đề xuất đã được đưa ra đối với giáo viên ngoại ngữ, các trung tâm ngoại ngữ, cũng như những nội dung cần nghiên cứu thêm.</subfield>
