   <subfield code="a">Một giải pháp thay thế khả thi hiện nay để đáp ứng nhu cầu tiêu thụ điện tăng là ứng dụng các nguồn phát điện phân tán (distributed generation – DG). Nguồn phát DG mang lại hiệu quả chi phí cao bởi vì nó là nguồn phát quy mô nhỏ so với nguồn phát tập trung truyền thống. Hơn nữa, công nghệ phát điện dùng cho DG chủ yếu là các nguồn năng lượng tái tạo, chẳng hạn: năng lượng mặt trời, gió, thủy điện, địa nhiệt và thủy triều, những nguồn năng lượng này thì khá thân thiện với môi trường. Khi các DG được tích hợp tối ưu, với vị trí đặt và công suất phát phù hợp, vào các lưới điện phân phối (LĐPP), nó sẽ giúp cắt giảm tổn thất công suất và giúp cải thiện chất lượng điện áp của lưới điện. Ngoài ra, sự tích hợp của DG còn giúp cải thiện khả năng tải của các đường dây truyền tải. Tuy nhiên, sự phân bổ không hợp lý của DG có thể làm tăng tổn thất, dao động điện áp và mất ổn định hệ thống. Vì vậy, vị trí đặt và công suất phát của các DG phải được tính toán hợp lý trước khi tích hợp để thu được cao nhất các lợi ích về kinh tế, kỹ thuật cũng như môi trường trong quá trình quy hoạch LĐPP.</subfield>
