Zusammenfassung:Based on the theories of semantics and syntax of words and phrases, this study makes A Study on Semantic and Syntactic Features of Words and Phrases in Quotation Marks used in English and Vietnamese Economic Magazines in attempt to find out the similarities and differences in semantics and syntax to suggest some implications for teaching English to Vietnamese learners, especially journalism students. These two sets of data are structurally described and contrastively analyzed under a qualitative and quantitative approachs. The first source consists of 100 words and phrases in quotation marks from The Economist and Business in English, the second source comprises 100 words and phrases in quotation marks from Kinh te Sai Gon and Kinh te chau A- Thai Binh Duong in Vietnamese. The findings of the study show that words and phrases in quotation marks from economic in English and Vietnamese are generally similar in structure patterns, but difference in the frequence or in the formality of words and phrases. Hopefully, the result of the study can be somewhat beneficial for the teaching and learning of English. This study also be helpful for journalism students as well as reporters in writing economic texts.
