| Achoimre: | This paper is to study semantic and syntactic features of English and Vietnamese idioms denoting speed. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis is made use of through 360 idioms in English and Vietnamese together with numerous numbers of examples from various linguistics books, dictionaries, short stories and from the Internet. The findings show that idioms denoting speed have remarkable syntactic and semantic features and there are also some similarities and differences between English and Vietnamese in some features. This paper also deals with the implications for the teaching and learning of idioms as well as for further studies |
