Descripción
Tóm tắt:This study aims at conducting a contrastive analysis of conceptual metaphors expressing love and hatred in Trinh Cong Son’s and Bob Dylan’s songs in the light of cognitive semantics. The data for analysis is taken from approximately 140 songs for both composers with about 360 samples of conceptual metaphors of love and hatred in total. The qualitative and quantitative approach are exploited in order to help the researcher achieve the aims and objectives proposed. The more specifically the similarities and the differences in expressions of conceptual metaphors of love and hatred in both composers’ songs are pointed out, the more interesting the discoveries of the factors (namely culture and religion) affecting the formation of metaphorical images in these two composers’ songs become. Besides giving an in-depth understanding of conceptual metaphors of love and hatred in these two talented composers’ songs, the research is carried out with the hope of adding the voice to the variety of conceptual metaphors. In addition, implications of the thesis can be a useful reference for those who are interested in teaching and learning conceptual metaphors.
