要約:The language of instructions is a very essential one which has its own characteristics that made it different from other languages. This thesis has been done in an effort to study linguistic features of the words “Green” in English and “Xanh (lá cây)” in Vietnamese. The descriptive, qualitative, quantitative, analytic and contrastive methods are employed to give a detail description of some linguistic features and to point out the similarities and differences between the words “Green” in English and “Xanh (lá cây)” in Vietnamese in terms of semantic and pragmatic features. With a collection of samples taken from different sources in both languages, the findings of this study are analyzed and presented based on a survey of 250 samples containing “Green” in English and 250 samples containing “Xanh (lá cây)” in Vietnamese. In term of semantics, Green in English and Xanh (lá cây) in Vietnamese has been described classified into different fields of meaning: field of color, environmentally friendly issues, plants, fields / mountain area, business, unripeness, complexion, etc. In general, the semantic features of Green and Xanh (lá cây) can be similar in some aspects of meaning between two languages but there are also different cases of meaning which only appear in English or in Vietnamese. It is hoped that the results of this study will really provide some practical applications in English language teaching, learning as well as daily communication.
