| Résumé: | This study investigated the expressions of interpersonal meanings in the Tale of Kieu and its English translated version. The study focused on analyzing the expressions of mood, modality, vocatives denoting interpersonal meanings. On the basis of the data collected from the Tale of Kieu and its English translated version, the mood, modality and vocative expressions of interpersonal meaning were described and analyzed in order to help readers have more understandings on the interpersonal meaning in the Tale of Kieu. Thanks to the linguistic expressions (LEs) of interpersonal meanings(IMs), people can reach their aim in communication more easily and they can get closer to the person whom they communicate with, and others can know what their relationships are. In addition, LEs of IMs play an important role in contributing to making Truyen Kieu by Nguyen Du become a great work of all time. As for similarities, both English and Vietnamese have mood, modality and pronoun, proper names used to express interpersonal meaning. Moreover, to some extent, they share the same ways to perform the language. |
