Omschrijving
Samenvatting:This paper reports on an empirical study of translation courses in a tertiary English Major Program in Vietnam based on both online survey and follow-up interview data of translation students, interns, and graduates from the University of Foreign Language Studies, the University of Danang. This study presents students’ perceptions of translation courses in terms of subjects, teaching and learning methodology and materials. It also explores students’ selfassessment of their own performances and interns’ and graduates’ problems in real-life practice. The results show that many students, interns and graduates have pointed out that there are many shortcomings in the translation course of UFLS, students' capabilities are at a normal level, most students are not ready and confident for professional translation work. Students’ beliefs that, within the changing demands of professional translation and translators’ work status, translation teaching at tertiary level needs to reconsider program structure, taking into account both international and local work requirements to prepare graduates for the globalised market.
