Cal Brown

Cal Coburn Brown (April 16, 1958 – September 10, 2010) was an American convicted murderer who was found guilty of the 1991 carjacking, rape and murder of Holly Washa in Washington. On May 23, 1991, in King County, Washington, Brown, who was out on parole for another crime, had carjacked Washa at knifepoint, and for the next 36 hours, Washa was robbed, raped and tortured by Brown, who ultimately stabbed and strangled her to death. Brown later confessed to the murder while he was in custody for assaulting a woman in California, and subsequently charged with the crime. Brown was found guilty of aggravated murder and sentenced to death and executed on September 10, 2010. Brown was the last person to be put to death in the state of Washington before capital punishment was ruled unconstitutional in 2018 and later formally abolished in the state in 2023.
