| 总结: | This thesis mainly examined the syntactic and semantic features of colour idioms in English and Vietnamese. The contrastive analysis in qualitative and quantitative approach was used to analyze and describe the collected data for finding out the linguistic features of colour idioms. Besides, we used the descriptive and contrastive analysis for doing this research. 431 sentences extracted from novels in English and in Vietnamese, including 216 samples in English and 215 ones in Vietnamese in this study were taken from novels in English and in Vietnamese from the late 20th century to the early 21st century. In our study, similarities and differences in aspect of syntax and semantics are examined to give learners of two above languages great advantages to use colour idioms properly in their language communication and especially, in translation. The study found that, in aspect of syntax, the colour idioms were classified in terms of syntactic classes such as noun phrases, verb phrases, adjective phrases, adverbial phrases, and prepositional phrases. In aspect of semantics, the study investigates the transference of meanings of colours used in idioms in English and Vietnamese through metaphor, metonymy, hyperbole, and simile. We tried to point out the similarities and differences in semantic features of colour idioms used in both investigated languages. |
