要約:This is an exceptional novel about an exceptional man, the greatest Japanese actor of his time and the creator (with his father) of Noh theater. When the Ashikaga shogun Yoshimitsu (1357-1408) first sees Zeami perform, he takes him as a lover. While the shogun lives, the fortunes of the house of Kanze are assured. Yoshimitsu's death weakens but does not destroy the troupe. In the end, it is his foster son's enmity that forces Zeami to make a bitter choice to ensure the future of his house. Kanze evokes an exotic world and makes it feel right. And in Zeami, Albery has created an admirable character. Zeami is not brave in any conventional sense; his courage resides in his willingness to endure any abuse for his art. Highly recommended.
