Indeed, this was a milestone election, and I think that White captures that nicely. While White had a reputation for having been a liberal Democrat, he seems to gravitate toward Ronald Reagan. He sees Reagan as an upbeat, forward-looking candidate. At the same time, he makes Jimmy Carter out to be desperate and vindictive as he tries to cling to the Presidency. The book's best feature (as is the case with the whole MOTP series) is White's vivid depiction of the high drama that Presidential campaigns once represented
