Sumario:This anthology introduces English-speaking readers to the stories, memoirs, poetry, photography, and paintings of a French Polynesian artistic community that has been growing in strength since the 1960s. Some of the writers are translated into English here for the first time. Stewart (the general editor of the MANOA series on international literature) provides an overview of French Polynesian history and describes its contemporary life and culture in the introduction.
