Cahpter 2 gives attention to the physiography and geomorphology of major rice-growing regions, and to the components of the lanscape, or landforms, that are particularlysuited for rice growing. Chapter 3 explains water, a major factor in rice growing. A subject matter of chapter 4 is classification of soils on which rice is grown. Chapter 5 gives ample attention to the extremely important effects of the aquatic water regime on soil properties and to the changes, both temporary and enduring, which occur in soils subjected to such a regime. Chapter 6 discussescertain parameters pertaining to soils, water, and other characteristics of the environment as they relate to the growth and performance of the rice crop. Chapter 7 indicates relationships between the performance of rice cultivars and the properties of the environments, which are defined as land qualities in modern land-evaluation parlance
