Descripció
Sumari:The book updates the treatment, subtitutes new figures, and add new problem exercises in many places. This book combines engineering and scientific perspectives to produce the definitive text on metal corrosion. Chapters on thermodynamics, mixed potential theory, and passivity lay the foundation for subsequent discussions of galvanic corrosion, pitting and crevice corrosion, environmental cracking, intergranular corrosion, hydrogen damage, erosion-corrosion, and weldment corrosion. Subsequent chapters review aqueous corrosion, including effects of temperature, dissolved solutes, and biological organisms; and later, atmospheric corrosion at ambient temperature, along with oxidation and scaling in elevated-temperature gases. The concluding chapters are devoted to methods of corrosion prevention: cathodic protection, coatings, alloy and materials selection, and design measures to resist corrosion
