Erythrocytes of the poikilotherms : A phylogenetic odyssey

This book documents and illustrates the cytology of the cold-blooded vertebrates. It details the continuum of erythrocytes from the invertebrates through the members of the phylogenetic Classes that comprise the poikilotherms. The presentation initiates with a discussion of hemoglobin, the reason fo...

It details the continuum of erythrocytes from the invertebrates through the members of the phylogenetic Classes that comprise the poikilotherms. The presentation initiates with a discussion of hemoglobin, the reason for the erythrocyte's existence. The form and activities of this molecule are considered when it is dissolved in some body fluis (in certain invertebrates) and when it is enclosed within free, fluid-suspended cells. The first-examined erythrocytes are the red cells that were originally expressed in evolution in a subset of representatives from six Phyla of invertebrates.
