After serving in 1857 in Delhi and Lucknow, the unit became a regular cavalry regiment along with the Punjab Frontier Force. It participated in the Second Afghan War (1879-1880). After the frontier operations between 1894-1898, the Regiment never served in the frontier region again, and the Punjab Frontier Force was absorbed into the Indian Army.
