| Riassunto: | This thesis examined the linguistic features of Verbal processes in
“Runaway” by Alice Munro versus in its Vietnamese translational equivalent
“Trốn chạy” by Trần Thị Hương Lan. In aspect of syntax, the sentences types
were classified in terms of syntactic classes. In aspect of semantics, the study
investigated semantic features with participants Sayer, Verbiage and
Receiver. The data analysis showed the similarities and differences of Verbal
processes in the short stories “Runaway” versus in its Vietnamese
translational equivalent “Trốn chạy” in terms of syntax and semantics.
Syntactically, Verbal processes were found that sentences types used by
Intransitive verbal clauses, Monotransitive verbal clauses, Ditransitive verbal
clauses and Complex transitive verbal clauses. Semantically, the features of
Verbal processes could be characterized of the use of different types of
Intransitive verbal processes, Verbal processes with Paratactic projection,
Verbal processes with Hypotactic projection, Verbal processes with Receiver,
Verbal processes with Verbiage. The study has been made great efforts to find
out the similarities and differences in linguistic features of verbal processes
between English and Vietnamese. Consequently, these things may be worth
studying by advanced learners of English and of Vietnamese as well |
