Description
Summary:Literature has always played an important role in human lives and societies in all time. Literature represents the very action of reading. From reading people can form ideas, knowledge and ideologies about the world where they live. Through literary works, readers can understand and grasp the history, human experiences, and etc. This thesis is carried out to investigate the stylistic devices used in “Perfect Spy” by Larry Berman and how they are translated into Vietnamese in terms of translation methods. Moreover, in order to avoid misunderstanding as well as confusion, we have to list, describe and analyze the stylistic devices in “Perfect Spy” by Larry Berman and their Vietnamese translational equivalents. The data for analysis is taken from 197 samples in English and 197 samples in Vietnamese. Especially, after studying the findings of thesis, we recognize that with using a great deal of stylistic devices in a story, the author can express what he wants to describe and compare. Besides, stylistic devices make the story more interesting and lively and help the author get the reader’s attention. Furthermore, we also recognize that due to differences and varieties between two languages, the loss and gain phenomenon is unavoidable. As a consequence, this research will help learners as well as readers have more awareness of stylistic devices in an English story. In particular, they can have more knowledge and experiences in reading and translating stylistic devices from English into Vietnamese of a story.
