Omschrijving
Samenvatting:Exaggeration is a common and prevalent phenomenon, often being used in ordinary conversational situations and readily understood and interpreted. In addition, theoretical models normally given to explain exaggeration do not give a complete picture of the different motivational forces that are present. Thus, the aim of this present study has been to investigate and identify the linguistic features of exaggeration in the data collected from short stories, films and daily speech and to attempt to give a more complete and representative account of the phenomenon. The data were then classified, described and analysed qualitatively and descriptively. The findings of exaggeration also show that there are similarities and differences of exaggeration in terms of syntax, semantics and pragmatics in English and Vietnamese. In addition, the study suggests some implications of finding for the teaching and learning English as a foreign language in Vietnam.
