Achoimre:Negation may be present in all units of the language (from the word to discourse) and also has important implications at the morphological, phonological, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic levels. Negation has been a fascinating area of study both in descriptive and theoretical linguistics because of the varying positions that the lexical negatives occupy in the world’s languages and the need to analyze the semantic features of lexical negatives as well as to determine their positions in sentence structure. From what noted above, an investigation into English lexical devices denoting negation is an interesting and necessary task to do. On the sources of data collected from various linguistic books, textbooks, novels and short stories, The investigation is carried out to examine some semantic and syntactic features of English lexical devices denoting negation and their Vietnamese equivalents. Hopefully, this research is useful to those who are studying English as second language as well as Vietnamese.
