description The study attempts to investigate the semantic and syntactic features of collocations containing the word love in English and Vietnamese songs. This investigation is based on a corpus of 100 famous English songs and 150 Vietnamese songs randomly gathered from the different web sites such as http://www.loibaihat.info,http://www.lyrics007.com, http://www.metrolyrics.com, http://www.dactrung.com etc. The research is carried out thorough the adoption of quantitative and contrastive approaches. The most important and significant aspect of the study, the similarities and differences between English and Vietnamese collocations in English and Vietnamese songs in the view of semantic and syntactic features, is presented in order to help learners have better use of language in communication. The findings of the study show the frequency and variety in terms of semantic and syntactic features of collocations. Lastly, suggestions have been made based on the result of the analysis in order to apply these collocations effectively in teaching and learning languages.
