Summary:In today's globalized world, language plays a vital role in facilitating communication and information exchange among people from different nations. Consequently, for students, especially those majoring in English Language Teaching Education at the University of Da Nang, University of Foreign Language Studies (UD-UFL), translation serves as a foundational course. However, mastering translation poses significant challenges for second-year ELT-major students striving for proficiency in English. Concerned about this issue, our research aimed to identify common Vietnamese–English translation errors made by second-year students majoring in English Language Teacher Education and propose suggestions for improving current practices. Our study employed both quantitative and qualitative research methods, utilizing questionnaires and interviews as primary instruments to gather reliable data. In the 2023-2024 academic year, 40 second-year students enrolled in the “Translation and Interpretation 1” course participated in our survey. Our findings revealed that sophomores majoring in English Language Teacher Education encountered numerous challenges in Vietnamese–English translation, particularly related to vocabulary and grammatical structures
