Chapter 14 - Applications and challenges of membrane distillation in water reuse
Membrane distillation (MD), a hybrid thermal-membrane process, has attracted great attention in water reuse because of the excellent removal of salts as well as chemicals of emerging concerns. However, the occurrence of surfactants or low-surface-tension liquids in wastewater can reduce the antiwett...

However, the occurrence of surfactants or low-surface-tension liquids in wastewater can reduce the antiwetting and antifouling properties of available MD membranes. This chapter presents the limitations and challenges of applying membrane distillation in water reuse. Membrane wetting and fouling, along with the rejection of chemicals of emerging concern, are also reported in this chapter. Another concern regarding the high energy requirement of membrane distillation is further discussed. In addition, this chapter provides an overview of the development of MD membranes to enhance resistance to membrane wetting and fouling and reduce thermal energy consumption. Finally, the perspectives of membrane development are emphasized to provide guidance for future research. 2023-09-28T02:48:19Z 2023-09-28T02:48:19Z 2023 Book Bài báo đăng trên tạp chí thuộc ISI, bao gồm book chapter 978-0-443-19180-0 https://scholar.dlu.edu.vn/handle/123456789/2978 10.1016/B978-0-443-19180-0.00014-6 https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/B9780443191800000146 en Elsevier |
