The dm Server is built on top of OSGi, a technology specially designed for building dynamic and modular systems in Java. OSGi brings many benefits to Java developers: first, it allows you to divide a system into multiple modules, each of which can be installed, uninstalled, updated, started, and stopped independently; second, it allows different versions of a module to be deployed at the same time so that different applications can choose a version to import at runtime. The OSGi technology brings great benefits by itself, but the dm Server makes it even more valuable by extending it and integrating it with other technologies that you need for building enterprise Java appli- cations. Moreover, the dm Server is the first application server that directly exposes OSGi’s dynamic and modular capabilities to application developers. These are the reasons why I believed the dm Server would succeed and why I decided to write this book. ■Chapter 1: Introduction to OSGi ......................................................................................1 ■Chapter 2: Developing Bundles with Spring Dynamic Modules ................................57 ■Chapter 3: Introduction to the dm Server .....................................................................85 ■Chapter 4: Getting Started with the dm Server...........................................................105 ■Chapter 5: Developing Applications for the dm Server ............................................131 ■Chapter 6: Migrating Web Applications to the dm Server ........................................191 ■Chapter 7: Tracing Applications on the dm Server ...................................................219 ■Chapter 8: Managing Application Growth on the dm Server....................................237 2012-08-30T01:42:03Z 2012-08-30T01:42:03Z 2009 Book 978-1-4302- 7 https://scholar.dlu.edu.vn/thuvienso/handle/DLU123456789/31626 en application/pdf Apress |

When I was trying out the dm Server, I could see already that it was to bring an evolution to
enterprise Java application development. The dm Server is built on top of OSGi, a technology specially
designed for building dynamic and modular systems in Java. OSGi brings many benefits to Java developers:
first, it allows you to divide a system into multiple modules, each of which can be installed, uninstalled,
updated, started, and stopped independently; second, it allows different versions of a module to be
deployed at the same time so that different applications can choose a version to import at runtime. The
OSGi technology brings great benefits by itself, but the dm Server makes it even more valuable by
extending it and integrating it with other technologies that you need for building enterprise Java appli-
cations. Moreover, the dm Server is the first application server that directly exposes OSGi’s dynamic and
modular capabilities to application developers. These are the reasons why I believed the dm Server would
succeed and why I decided to write this book. |
