In the twenty-first century, transportation by trucks, trains and planes is surpassed by far in volume and distance travelled by the shipping and boating industries – trans- and inter-oceanically via container ships, bulk carriers, and tankers and coastally by both cargo vessels and a vast fleet of recreational and fishing vessels.
