| الملخص: | In this study I aim to investigation the theme-rheme structure of English and Vietnamese proverbs. The thematic structure of the English and Vietnamese clause in general and of the proverbs in both languages in particular are considered in comparison to each other, then their semantic, pragmatic and cultural aspects. This study is both qualitatively carried out with the analysis of four thousand proverbs in English and Vietnamese. The findings of this study show the frequency and variety in terms of occurrence of different thematic patterns and types of theme in English and Vietnamese proverbs along with observations, discussion and explanations for the findings. The results of this work are applicable to thematic analysis at clause and discourse level, the semantic, pragmatic and cultural approaches to the thematic structure and the use and translation of proverbs for research, studying and communicative purposes. |
