Resumo:It is both easy and hard to set to work on a virgin subject. The art of Japan best known in the West has been its prints. These were produced in Tokyo (then called Edo). With Harunobu in 1764 they were developed in full colours, but by the end of the century had already begun to decline in quality, and the landscapes of Hokusai and Hiroshige were only an afterglow of the original inspiration.
