| সংক্ষিপ্ত: | This is a corpus-based study on syntactic and semantic characteristics of linguistic devices required for the text coherence in English versus Vietnamese poems. This is a descriptive study executed in a contrastive analysis with English chosen as the source language and Vietnamese as the target language. The study aims at the investigation into linguistic devices required for the text coherence in English versus Vietnamese poems. The research study is conducted with a combination of descriptive, qualitative and quantitative methods. The data consists of 500 poems in English and Vietnamese by distinguished poets in the 19th , 20th and 21st centuries from selected English and Vietnamese anthologies. First, we describe syntactic and semantic features of linguistic devices required for the text coherence in English versus Vietnamese poems.
