Tóm tắt: | Any research has its own aims and this research has three main aims which attempt to address the two research questions as proposed by the author. The first aim is to find out students’ perception of the criteria used to grade an argumentative essay. Knowing their perception of these is extremely useful as it can give us as language educators a transparent window of looking at their weak and good points of writing this genre in particular and writing essays in general. Moreover, it is necessary for them to get themselves involved in a set of criteria used to score this genre as soon as possible, so they can shape a writing framework for their future essay writing. The second aim of the study is to explore the teacher raters’ perception on this group of students’ papers. That means the raters used the same set of criteria to grade the papers and give their general ideas about these students’ weaknesses and strong points based on the graded papers. This is done since the author expects to have more reliable information about this group of students’ ability to write this genre. The third aim of the research is to correlate the perceptions of the two groups. One perception is from the students’ and the other from the raters’. This should be an interesting part of the study because if their perception well matches, the result can be generalized to other groups of students who are studying how to write an essay generally and compose this genre in particular. What is more, if this is a significant correlation, more sets of essay detailed scoring criteria should be developed and brought into the classroom so that learners have benefits from this. |
