Studies on antibiotics resistance of escherichia coli collected from pangasius fish during processing : Master’s dissertation submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Master in Food Technology

Deskribapena
Gaia:Seventy-one (71) isolates of Escherichia coli (E. coli) collected from different samples and processing steps taken from two Pangasius processing factories PPF1, n = 36 and PPF2, n = 35 were randomly selected to study the prevalence of antibiotics resistance among them. They were tested against fifteen antibiotics commercially available and frequently used in Pangasius aquaculture, using disk agar diffusion method. High resistance response was observed among both PPF1 and PPF2 isolates to ampicillin (47.22% and 42.86%), followed by cefotaxime (33.33% and 40.00%), respectively. Varying resistance response to all other tested antibiotics such as streptomycin, meropenem, tetracycline, sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim and nalidixic acid was also observed among E. coli isolates from both factories except to colistin from PPF1 and kanamycin from PPF2.
